A Plea For Help From Germany PostMon Mar 22, 2010 3:59 pm Offline

I'm a fan of the show since the first season. I'm living in Germany and 2 or 3 years ago they opened a German Southpark site and since then access to the free streaming on the US main site has been blocked for people from Germany. I'm surprised that i can still visit the american forums. It sucks enough to be told which site you can visit and which not, but at least till this season they offered normal free streaming of the episodes (luckily you can choose between English and German dubbing because the German dub really sucks ass) like on the orgiginal US site. Now they suddenly delayed episode 1 of season 14 again and again. First they claimed it would be available at the same time as in the States, then suddenly they said it would be available on the 20th of March, then it was on the 24th. So episode 1 is still not available here. They obviously do that to "encourage" people to buy downloads of the episode.

I think that really stinks. Why should i pay for something others get for free just because i live in the wrong country?

Why do the guys who own Southpark allow assh*les like the ones running the German site to defile the good name of the franchise by treating fans like that?

Please intervene and don't let the German fans be exploited by a few crooks who make money with something you give away for free in the USA!

Or please open the US site for German visitors again! Let people decide themselves which site to visit.

This may or may not apply to the Studios - as I don't know the exact stipulations or which web host you're referring to - but often times the websites which people of a certain country are permitted to visit depends on the laws and government of said country.

@ Niels0827:
It has nothing to do with German law or anything like that. They simply made a German version of the original site one day and from that day on access to the US site was denied for people with German IP addresses. Each time i try to enter any part of the US site other than the forum, i get a picture of Cartman in Bavarian leatherhosen telling me that i have to go to the German site.

The German site is a carbon copy of the US site, just in German, naturally and till recently the only difference was that you could choose in which language to watch the streamed episodes.

I guess that a license was sold to some German company and part of the contract is to deny Germans access to the US site in order to force them to visit the German site.

It would all be annoying but no big deal if the people who run the German site would not suddenly try to squeeze money out of the fans for something that is still free in the USA.

@ Big-Will:
The address is simply: www.southpark.de
Like i said, it is simply the official German version of the original US site.

I'm sorry, but that made me laugh. Could you take a screenshot?

It's not always necessarily a national or federal law. Copyright and distribution statutes can affect how a product, or television show, or website, is exhibited or distributed in other countries in correspondance to their laws. You can thank licensing for that.

It's not just Germany that does that, you know. I'm currently living in the UK, and we have the exact same thing here - a UK-version of the American site, in which we only have five, pre-selected episodes available for viewing, and whereas the new episodes air on Wednesdays in the US, we have to wait until Friday to watch them. It sucks ass, and the only reason I visit this site is to watch the previews for the new episodes. If you are watching the episodes in English anyway, you should just find some free streaming sites through google or something. Quality may not be that great, but you'll at least get the episodes you want, when you want.

I agree with most of what you're saying but this, Sir, is not true.

The operators of the german southpark web site (more precisely: their download business partners) do not offer the first episode of season 14 for 0,99€ download. So how are they supposed to profit from delaying a file if they don't sell that file at the same time?

Anyways, I wished one of the producers who cared was made aware of the low level of dubbing quality here in germany as well as the equally bad german website. It's a disgrace!

Cheers,
Mel.

It most certainly is true and was even announced on the forum: http://forums.southparkstudios.com/foru ... 59&t=43372 (though you're right: it's not offered for .99€, it costs 2.49€ because it's HD).

While I don't mind waiting for the new episodes a week longer I'm really ... unhappy about not being able to read the American site's FAQs without using a proxy server (and seriously, what's the point? The FAQs aren't "top secret", are they?). The German dubbing could be better, but I don't see how any of the producers could that and as long as we can choose to watch the English version I don't really care.

btw: you can watch "Sexual Healing" on the German site now :D

Hi Trangle, im from germany too.
There are few legal ways to watch eps on sps.
I for example use "Modify Headers". Its an addon for Mozilla firefox which hides your ip and give u a fake ip.
http://www.planearium.de/wordpress/?p=925
Thats a link to a blog entry which explains u how to use it.

Win. Thanks, dude! I wasn't expecting that.

I'm surprised the message itself is not in German. I'd assume the same message is displayed on any foreign Studios site, but the lederhosen makes me think otherwise.
