I'm probably in the minority here, but I prefer seasons 5-10 instead of 1-5. I mean, I LOVED the first few seasons of SP and they hold a dear place in my heart, but when I look back and watch some episodes I don't find it as funny anymore (Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE the older episodes, but I think I've matured as I've gotten older and stuff)

I really love the South Park episodes that have social commentary in them, because its just so completely different then everything else on television. My most enjoyable seasons have got to be 7-9, the subjects they tackle and the comedy they display is just SO funny to me.

Southpark definately has changed their style over the years, but if they didn't everyone would be getting burnt out from the same old stuff, they HAD to evolve over 11 seasons.

Regardless, I still enjoy Southpark and think its the bomb diggity, yo.

I'd have to agree with you here...

Personally, though, I don't really have a preference to any particular season. Each season seems to have its fair share of good and bad episodes...

1-6 were normal seasons. That's why I like them more. Nowadays, it's all about the fancy animation and crazy plotlines. Darth Chef? Mr. Garrison's sex change? WTF is that? I just don't find it funny anymore. It's starting to become tasteless, and that's the main reason I don't watch it as much anymore.

I think the upgraded animations have saved the show.

In an interview with David Letterman Trey says people often said South Park was nothing but bad animation and fart jokes. Well, the occasional fart joke is hilarious, but how long could South Park have gone like that?

Not every idea will be great. For every episode like Make Love, Not Warcraft there is Jackovasaurus, Licecapades, Pip and A Million Little Fibers.

I will grant you the Garrison sex change was really not necessary, but MnT having the technology to save the overall legacy of the show from being "bad animation and fart jokes" is well worth the occasional bad episode along the way.

But that doesn't explain why every character overacts now.

First of all, characters don't overact as they are not real. If anyone is overacting, it's MnT and others who do the voices.

Second of all, if you were to remove all the overacting in television and film, you would be spending your days listening to the radio. Overacting didn't start with South Park.

Thirdly, what does overacting by voice actors have to do with the show animations, plot line comparisons we were making?

Saved the show how exactly?
Better visuals (I prefer the old style animation myself) don't make up for a lack of good charactarization, scripting or plot ideas; thankfully South Park's always been good at these things, and as Matt and Trey get more expierience, the show just seems to be getting better in these crucial respects.
Sorry if I sound too fanboyish, but I don't really care about the increase in politics/pop culture parodies the shows expierienced of late; as long as the show doesn't turn into a slideshow of unrelated parodies (like so many new shows out there) and manages to link everything together well (as it has been doing) It'll still be better than most of the shows out there.

Over-react? In what way exactly is that bad and/or different to the old sieriese? Most of the humour comes from their over-reactions nowdays, that's why they over-react. I think.

Imagine the Xenu scene from Trapped In The Closet, pretty much the entire episodes of Cancelled and Trapper Keeper done with construction paper.

To quote Cartman; that would be so unbelievably kick-ass!
Remember what they used to be able to do with construction paper (the sucubus fight scene, meca streisand trashing town, what more do you want?).
But you're right. It's not as good as modern animation techniques. Just because it's more stylish and has more charactar, doesn't mean it's any better than computer animation, which looks way to expensive to be anything less than awsomness incarnate!

Is that right. Well, that's what the show was known for. It's low-budget animation, the Kenny deaths, Chef songs, etc etc. These are the things that made the show unique. And I know that Matt and Trey didn't want to be known as the guys with the Kenny deaths and cruddy animation, but the new stuff is garbage. There is the occasional amazing episode thrown into the mix, but it's frustrating for a fan of the older episodes and everything about them to watch a show that's completely different from the show I loved. That's my issue with it.

Yes, that's right. If you listen to the commentary on the DVD's even Trey says things didn't start getting real good until season 5. When the animation was crude South Park had to resort to fart jokes to be funny because visually they were limited. Well after 10 years, the improved animation has allowed them to tell stories they wouldn't have been able to tell otherwise.

The advanced animation process has also made South Park memorable in the sense that they can do commentary on world events literally days after they happen. Best Friends Forever aired the day before Terri Schiavo died, It's Christmas in Canada was aired three days after Saddam Hussein was captured and The Return of Chef was done nine days after Hayes left the show. It's worth pointing out that two of these episodes were nominated for Emmy awards. This new technology has served MnT greatly.

'Cartman Gets an Anal Probe' was the only episode to be made using paper, after that they did it all on computers.

I can't think of a single good thing to say about episodes from series 10 or 11! I'm afraid as far as new South Park episodes are concerned 'I'm a sad panda' - now that was South Park at its best(ish), the island of misfit mascots! They would never come up with anything that funny now. Sad indeed...

And as I write this my computer selects the appropriate soundtrack; Lou Reed - Perfect Day! Bleak...

I think it's just as funny, it's just a different kind of funny. There's something about old episodes that I love, and something about the new ones that I love. But I do think the new episodes should focus on just the boys for a change.
This is a misfits rejection of a life in submission

Oh , stop whining. Let's suggest that Matt and Trey didn't make them choices (New Animations,Pop Culture References,Politics etc.).Let's just have 10.5 seasons of crappy animations, fart/fat/Jew jokes. Of course all of you people would be whining how the SP is going down, how they have to improve the animations etc.
Don't whine cos if SP would stay the way you'd like it to stay then I'm 100% sure the show would be canceled by season 8-9.Would you like that??? South Park has to adapt and evolve.

If you don't like it anymore then don't watch it.But please shut the hell up and stop whining cos it ain't gonna get you anywhere.

PS:Don't say stuff like "OMG the WATJJ sucked cos I've only laughed twice" What does that have to do with the episode being good or bad??? Personally a rarely laugh at SP at all.Mostly because I'm a sad-o.

Once again: IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE NEW SOUTH PARK ; DON'T WATCH IT.

Yes, they went more political in the newer seasons.
But I quite like that. In fact, I like the new SP more than the old SP. Not that that wasn't funny, but as said before, it gets too much praising these days, and by everybody saying the new SP is bad, you're starting to think the same. But I don't think these new eps are bad at all. They still entertain me, and they don't always have to make me laugh to do that.
